is it just me or has the new site become, well.........awful
what happened to all te useful hints and tips and other stuff that made the site kinda interesting all we have now is the shop site which looks absolutely naff and handles the same as well |

I keep wondering if the success of the fan-sites like B&C, Warseer, LO, etc didn't bring about this strictly store policy from GW in regards to their
website. The success of Webmags like Firebase is probably being percieved by GW as that we have taken the reins for many of the hobby aspects. They are now
focusing on releasing new and cool toys.
Yeah, greatly miss the old site and the Web Teams that would create new scenarios, crazy conversions, using a meat grinder to generate sprue rubble (Props to Brother Bish  )
The Sneak Peeks and getting news was great and the sheer volume of hobby articles and background was astounding. Now it is just meh. With so few worthy articles in WD to be immortalized on the web. I am curious as to where GW is heading besides a trash heap.  |

but then does that leave the hobby in fear of complete and utter obliteration if it affects gw enough to go bust?
do u think anybody else would take ont he games themselves and re-release them? |

It's been done before for a number of games. FASA's Battletech and D&D have both been sold off to other companies to good and bad effects.
The Models are great and the ability to cross over parts is an excellent business model. The problem comes in sustainability. As most GW employees will tell you, it is not the Veterans that give business to GW it is the New Gamers. They buy rules, models and supplies in one go. Veterans spread out purchases over a period of time. So how do get the Veterans to part with a bit more money? Black Library helps and new rules/expansions and kits is another. I always liked the idea of buying into a website to get the latest rules, painting tips, news and development. An online WD with hard substance. The Rules and FAQ's can be updated regularly with a highly interactive component that keeps bringing the Veterans back. A true Repository of Knowledge. |
