Please any Comments/Critiques would be much appreciated. These are among the first few mini's that I have ever painted, so I know the technique is lacking, but I think I'm getting there. Thanks guys!

Hey all! I'm new to the boards, as well as the hobby. I recently grabbed me the Assault on Black Reach box and have been toiling away to finish it ever
since. Here is the first finished product to roll out.
Please any Comments/Critiques would be much appreciated. These are among the first few mini's that I have ever painted, so I know the technique is lacking, but I think I'm getting there. Thanks guys! |

Actually Brother Gideon, I think those look great! The only things I can suggest are adding some Deathwing iconography to the shoulder pads and perhaps
painting the bits on top of the storm bolters in a metallic colour. You have a nice, clean, crisp style and the shading on the powersword is very well done.

Gillyfish, thanks for the kind words. I've been scouring my transfer sheets to find the red DA iconography, but to no avail. Do those come in a
terminator box set? I'm not sure where to track those down. I'm pretty adamant on using transfers right now since I KNOW that any attempt at freehand
would be utterly disastrous! lol

Those look great and I can understand your apprehension with freehanding. Hopefully, you'll practice to the point where you are confident in your skills to
try it on a mini.
As to transfers, I have no idea but if you can get transfer paper, you can print them out. It would be a huge time and money saver. |

These look great, especially since you are new to the hobby. I know people who have been doing the hobby for years and are yet to achieve such a pleasing bone
colour. That power sword looks excellent to, top notch work mate. Look forward to seeing more.

Thanks guys. Progress has kind of slowed here. But do not fear, Dark Angels never quit! This one is just......slowing down.......for a bit.

how did you paint the sword?

Dark angel,
the sword was actually a bit easier than I thought it was going to be. basically I just started with the base color I wanted (the darkest at the bottom of the sword; scab if I remember right), and painted the whole sword that color. Then I just drybrushed my first highlight layer of blazing orange a little more than halfway down the blade, and then drybrushed a 50/50 mix of skull white and blazing orange on the tip and edges. voila! You dont have to use a red to orange fade, any colors will do. I've seen some awesome blue shades used that start as kind of a purple-ish hue at the bottom and fade to almost ice blue at the top. it looks awesome! I hope that answers your ?'s! and remember if it doesnt come out quite right the first time, there arent any rules that say you cant slap on some chaos black (or whatever your undercoat is) and do it again. You'll only get better the more you do it! |

Quick little update, I ordered some transfer paper and found the Deathwing iconography on the B&C forums. I'm anxiously waiting for the paper to
arrive so I can finish these guys up!

hi there, quick question... do Deathwing terminators have markings to indicate what squad they are in or a number for their company?

The Deathwing Logo is the company badge or a decorative combat knife that has a jagged line indicating it is broken.
Squad numbering hasn't really been done on the official miniatures. You can do a number of things: Sergeant's heraldry is carried on the other Terminators. Place a Squad number on the Terminators Left Leg piece or knee pad. Incorporate the Squad number into the Shoulder Pad. Just remember that the Deathwing is never in 10-man squads so there are 20 5-man squads. |
